Just Say the Word, We Can Do it all!
The United Black Men of Queens Foundation, Inc. is a community based 501 (C) (3), which provides educational support and mentoring services to underserved communities. Our focus on young people through mentoring has grown out of a need to develop the next generation of leaders.
Mentoring is a signature program of UBMQ. Our holistic approach addresses social, emotional and cultural needs of young boys 6 through 21 years old. Members of UBMQ are trained and certified to become mentors, advocates and role-models for youth. In Fall 2019, UBMQ will be challenged to adopt a more robust approach to mentoring with the inclusion of internships, entrepreneurship, corporate careers and STEM into its curriculum.
An extension of UBMQ’s mentoring program is our Robotics and Coding Academy. This program is made possible through one of our community partnerships. We realize the importance of promoting STEM and the impact it will have on today’s youth and their futures. We will leverage our partnership to deliver a comprehensive, project-based robotics and coding program to middle and high school youth.
Health & Wellness
UBMQ will host Health and Wellness workshops and town hall meetings that will include guest speakers from local hospitals and the healthcare industry. The purpose of our health and wellness initiatives is to increase awareness and knowledge of health issues impacting the Southeast Queens communities.
UBMQ’s educational sessions include project-based learning which is consistent with the department of education’s strategy for teaching. As part of our educational initiatives we provide workshops in conflict resolution, college readiness, job readiness, entrepreneurship, STEM, health and wellness.
